Ever since I was little, I always looked up to my Dad, Bill Twyford. It started the day when he taught me how to ride dirt bikes. His knowledge and way of teaching was something I knew I wanted to learn for myself when I got older.
Once I was old enough to swing a hammer, we started to work on an addition for our home. I worked for years at six bucks an hour. With the mass hours of creating and doing things people haven’t seen in person before, I knew I was destined for real estate. You name it, we were doing it. I knew at the age of 11 that I was hooked. I wanted to be one of those kids that’s different from the others. There’s something about being creative and being able to build and see what I can do that sparked my interest besides just trying to build race bikes with the six bucks an hour. Haha!
Once I graduated high school, I enrolled in an automotive course, being that I always had a love for anything mechanical. I quickly realized how burnt out on this lifestyle I was becoming. Working on just regular cars every day that people don’t take pride in wasn’t doing it for me. I wanted to only work on high performance and creative fabrication. I decided during the courses that I wanted to only do this as a hobby and only work on the projects I wanted to. I wanted a life of freedom and flexibility. I wanted to work for myself and not for someone else. I flipped the chapter on automotive and decided to focus solely on real estate and picking my Dad’s brain for as much information as I could absorb. I have been in the business of real estate since I was 11 and I love it more than ever. I knew that I wanted to have real estate to fund my love for cars.
At this point in my career, I’m a trainer just as well. I have done over 50 of the apprentice trainings with Pops and a lot of times I pick up and see things before he does. We all have our own little way of teaching and you will learn different points from each of us. I love to teach people all of the things I have learned and experienced, and I feel like they love to have me around to do it! I mean we always have so much fun. Who said learning had to be daunting? Especially, when you get to work in a business that allows you to be your own boss!
I now have a beautiful baby girl, Aria. Everyone says they want to be part of real estate and be accomplished before they have kids but to tell you the truth, she motivates me every day to be the best version of myself way beyond what I ever could have done on my own. She gives me more drive and I’ve never done better or had more opportunity than after having my little girl. I used to have the choice of working hard or taking time off, now all I want to do is run at full speed towards success. Which brings me to my last point: What drives you to want to be in this business? What motivates you to want to be your own boss and free? Focus on that most important aspect of your life and let it drive you.
There is no time limit to being in this business, whether you started at my age or you’re as old as my dad, haha, there are no excuses. You just have to go out and seize the opportunity!
